It is scientifically proven that mosquitoes do not have good eyesight, but they do have good smell . Hence, they are guided by the smell. Their bites are related to the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted when breathing: the more carbon dioxide and other substances such as that emitted when sweating (lactic acid), the more likely they are to sting.
There are many types of solutions to repel mosquitoes, some more effective than others.
First is the use of chemicals, such as insecticides or repellants. These products are very effective, but only temporarily, in addition, they have the disadvantage of being expensive and very harmful to the environment and to people and pets. There is also the use of mosquito nets, but these are usually very uncomfortable.
Then there are the homemade tricks, which are cheap and effective.
If you want to scare away the annoying mosquitoes from your room, put into practice the following recommendations:
1- Hang bags full of water on doors and windows. This will cause mosquitoes or other insects to be reflected in a distorted way and create a possible predator.
2- The smell of vinegar bothers mosquitoes. If you put containers with water and that substance in the windows they will not enter.
3- Place homemade mosquito traps . To make them, cut a plastic bottle almost in half. The small part will be like a funnel. At the bottom of the bottle (which will be the largest), place warm water, two tablespoons of yeast, and five tablespoons of brown sugar. Don’t mix them up. Insert the half where the nozzle was without a cap into the part where the ingredients are. Wrap both parts with plastic or black cardboard; only the entrance of the trap will be clear. Mosquitoes will enter and will no longer be able to get out.
4- Use natural herb repellent. Mix 25 drops of peppermint oil, 15 drops of clove essence, 5 drops of lemon essence, and 2 teaspoons of degreasing soap. Put that mixture on your body.
5- Place aromatic plants such as rosemary, mosquito geranium, citronella, eucalyptus, thyme and basil on doors and windows.
You can also use candles with repellent oils that burn producing a smoke based on the substances that these plants contain.
Blends of natural oils can also be used to repel insects.
Remember that the best way to eliminate mosquito pests is by destroying their breeding sites, which can be any container that contains standing water.
