There are many good washing machines on the market, all of which wash your clothes more or less clean. Here, of course, it is a really good idea to follow the latest test results to find out how the individual models perform in practice, which can be especially useful if the stores entice with very cheap offer prices.
In addition to the test results, it can also be a good idea to look at a number of other factors that are also good to consider. Below you will find a few tips on what to look for on your new washing machine:
Spin – preferably 1,600 rpm
The centrifugation is an important part of the washing process, as the water is thrown out of the clothes in this way. And the better your washing machine is at spinning, the less residual moisture there is in the clothes. Among other things, it is useful if you often dry clothes in the dryer, or if you just want to avoid too long a drying time.
Automatic soap dispensing – then everyone can wash clothes
More and more new washing machines have automatic soap dosing systems. Some brands, such as Miele, make use of their own detergent in the dosing system, while for example Bosch has two containers built-in which you can fill up with exactly the kind of liquid detergent and rinse aid you may want. Automatic soap dosing is an ingenious function for, for example, the busy family, where the children want to help with the household chores. They do not have to think about dosing detergent and rinse aid, but can instead just put the clothes in the machine and press “Start”, after which the quantity automatic makes sure to add the right amount of detergent.
Today, washing machines with automatic soap dosing are available at very reasonable prices, so it is worth considering if you want to get rid of the manual dosing for each wash.
Timer function – then you can plan the laundry
It is a really good idea to take the clothes out of the machine right after it has been washed, as otherwise it may start to smell and / or curl. If you choose a washing machine with a built-in timer function, you can thus choose to postpone the start so that you can put a machine over in the morning and set it to have finished washing when you get home in the afternoon. That way, you can use your time more efficiently, and you do not have to sit and wait for the machine to finish washing.
Noise level – important at a central location
In most homes, the washing machine is located in the bathroom or in the utility room, where the door can be closed. Thus, the noise level is usually irrelevant, but for you who live in an apartment or cottage and have the washing machine located in the kitchen with open connection to the living room and other living areas, it can be a really good idea to choose a model that is as quiet as possible. When the machine washes, the water intake and rinsing can be more or less noisy, and this is where you can make a difference by choosing a washing machine with a low noise level. When spinning, most washing machines make more or less the same noise.
Ease of use – a large door and illuminated drum is an advantage
The larger the door, the easier it will be to get the clothes in and out of the washing machine. This allows you to save time and effort when the clothes can be easily taken in and out. It is also an advantage, but not a necessity, that the drum be illuminated. That way, you are always sure to get the last black sock out of the machine.

Think (August 14, 2018)
The Consumer Council Think gets their washing machine test updated regularly with new models, and it was last updated in August 2018. Here, 5 out of 78 washing machines did so well that they were the best in tests.
In Think’s test, the washing machines are assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
- Washability 45%
- Power consumption 12%
- Flushability 10%
- Ease of use 10%
- Spin 10%
- Time consumption 5%
- Water consumption 3%
- Noise 5%
In Think’s test, washing ability is weighted very highly. It is important that the clothes can be washed completely clean and the soap washed out completely, as you will otherwise be left with the risk of dirty clothes and / or nuisances from the soap residues in the clothes. However, several of the washing machines perform really well, and many models are the best in tests.
In Tænk’s washing machine test you can also read about narrow and top-operated washing machines, which, however, are generally rated lower than ordinary front-operated models with a greater depth.
You can read the entire test by creating a paid membership at Think. Then you get not only access to the test results, but also to a number of useful articles and guides for choosing the right product.
